Ok. You're right. That isn't a rooster, it's a silky chicken. But at the time of publishing..... it's the closest I had.
According to China Highlights Website the Rooster is 10th in the Chinese zodiac and this year is a "Fire Rooster Year". They tell us that the Fire Rooster is "trustworthy, with a strong sense of timekeeping and responsibility at work." This whole idea makes me a little jealous of those Fire Roosters, since my timekeeping skills aren't the best. Since I'm a "Fire Tiger", I'm optimistic that 2017 is going to be a wonderful year for the lot of us.
Like pretty much everyone else on God's green earth, 2017 brings some new goals to the mix for this gal. Because I'm determined to remain accountable, I'm going to be giving you a glimpse into my "normal" life (the term normal being used loosely here) and updating with blog posts. Scary stuff is right.
My first goal is pretty generalized for both business and personal. I've set up a posting schedule for my blog, social media and updating the email newsletter list each month. I'll be spending some time over the next couple of weeks, putting together a consistency calendar for my home life, including things like which days of the week we'll eat out, which weekends are scheduled with at home activities and which nights I'm grocery shopping. Then the goal is to follow the plan for a whole year. The steps to accomplish this are:
Create a monthly newsletter template with information relevant to each month
Create a social media schedule for Facebook, Instagram & the blog
Brainstorm ideas for 2 blog posts per month in addition to client features
This second goal is strictly business related. I am aiming to grow my business enough to transition from working two jobs (my current full time job, plus running my photography business), to focusing solely on my photography and serving the amazing clients I've gathered and continue to meet on a regular basis. The biggest thing here for me, is getting over the fear of not having a regular salary and relying on my own business and skills to keep my family in a positive financial status. The steps I'll need to do to accomplish this are:
Saving 3 months of liquidatable assets
Have sessions booked 3-6 months in advance
Shoot 20 weddings as the lead shooter this year
Begin booking 2018 weddings
The last goal has two very distinct parts to it; business and personal. On the personal side of things, I need to minimize the amount of "things" I've collected over the years and continue to collect. The best action steps for this side of it are:
Declutter kitchen, family room & bedrooms
Donate, sell or trash unused items
Upgrade storage organization systems (cabinets & shelving)
Organize all remaining items into "homes" and remove anything I don't have room for.
The business side of things is a bit less daunting and complicated. Mainly, I'm streamlining my business to better service my customers. Instead of having dozens of choices for sessions, weddings or products, I've sat down and focused my services. Sessions will include 3 different types of sessions; Moments, Documentary & Adventure. Weddings will have 3 collections to choose from, all based on time. Products will be limited to gift prints (either loose or boxed with USBs), signature books and albums. You can view more details in the client guide!
The thriving part is easy. Once the decluttering is done, I can focus on making the most of my business and space to support my family and my amazing clients! I am truly looking forward to seeing where 2017 leads us and taking some epic adventures with everyone!
